Opening to Love

Throughout your life countless people—both known and unknown to you—have loved and cared for you, wished you well, and shown you innumerable acts of kindness. Right this minute, as you read these words, somewhere in the world, there are those who are radiating love towards you. Notice your response to this notion that you are well-loved. Maybe something in you starts to hum in joyful recognition of this truth. More likely than not, you might feel unsure, skeptical, incredulous or dismissive. After all, this world is a harsh place, and human beings have so many ways of being insensitive, judgmental, neglectful, and hateful towards each other. With all the ways we humans can be ugly, it can be easy to overlook subtle but profound expressions of love that are a part of our daily existence.

If you are feeling hurt, alone, lonely, anxious, fearful, angry, betrayed or bad about yourself, it doesn’t have to be this way. If you find yourself in need of more love, here is a book that you might find helpful. It’s called “Awakening through Love”. Written by Buddhist scholar and meditation teacher John Makransky, this book includes eye-opening descriptions of the pervasive nature of love as well as a number of meditative practices for opening to your capacity for giving and receiving love.
